We began as the Rohnert Park Craft Shoppe in October 1987 with a loan of $5,000 from the city. The purpose of the shop was to establish a place where senior consignors could display and sell their handcrafted items. We were originally located in a rented storefront on Southwest Boulevard in 1989. Unfortunately the shop closed because its revenues were not enough to pay the rent on a commercial location. When Codding Center was donated to be used as a Senior Center, the shop reopened its doors in November 1990 and in 1993 the shoppe repaid the loan. In 2009, the Craft Shoppe changed its name to SweetPea Gift Shoppe and we are currently located inside the Rohnert Park Senior Center at 6800 Hunter Drive in Rohnert Park. We are a non-profit all volunteered staffed organization benefiting the senior citizens of Sonoma County.
SweetPea Gift Shoppe contributes to the senior community by making donations to other non-profit organizations. Our most recent donation was made to the Rotary Club Rohnert Park-Cotati Helping Hands project. Rotary members perform odd jobs for senior citizens that need to be done and that seniors are unable to do. We are also a member of the Rohnert Park Chamber of Commerce.
As a member of the Rohnert Park Chamber of Commerce we hosted an after hours mixer and ribbon cutting to introduce SweetPea Gift Shoppe to the business community. Although we have been in business for nearly 30 years there are members of the community who are not aware we exist. We are truly the "hidden gem" of Rohnert Park.
